I had always loved old school retro vibes. The hair. The fashion. It's so bright and fun! Several months ago I got the chance to do a styled shoot inspired by the 1970s decade. It was something I had only thought of doing but once I met my subject, Kat, we began brainstorming and brought this project to life.
Outfit
For this shoot I wanted to use two different looks. First, I went with a casual t-shirt and flared pants look. Then I went with a more dressed up look with a suede skirt and patterned turtleneck both of which epitomized the true essence of 70s fashion.
I partnered with hair/makeup artist Sarah Biggers for hair and makeup. For the first look we went with big curls pinned back in the front with hair clips (a trend from that decade). We also decided on bold colored makeup using green pigments for the eyeshadow as that was, once again, another popular trend we found from that time. For the second look, we kept the makeup the same but put the hair in an up-do with a hair ribbon tied across the back.
Location
I wanted to include a record store in this shoot to incorporate another big piece of 70s culture- the music. I had searched record stores near me and I stumbled across Rainbow Records in Anderson so that was out first location.
I had also stumbled across an abandoned car in the Downtown Anderson parking garage which fit the yellow color scheme of the first outfit. We got lucky and were able to use the car as a prop which made for some of my favorite photos.
Lastly, we found an old building in downtown which provided a old school, 1970s look for out last photos.
