80's Skate Night

Nothing beats an 80's themed skate night! One of the traditional events at AU is an 80's themed skate night event where students dress up in 80's styled outfit and skate the night away at the local Anderson skating rink. Since this event was already themed, I thought this be be the perfect to place to go out and snap a few pics since the styling work was already done for me.

With a lot of these shoots, I love getting detail and outfit shots. These kinds of shots set the tone for the shoot and are easy to set up. The big picture is great but it's just as fun to see the details that go into a shoot and make the big picture what it is.

The ski-ball machines were a fun spot to shoot. The bright colors from these machines were so fun and added an element of liveliness to the photos. It also represented the fun memories that arcades bring to people is something I wanted to illuminate.

A huge part of photography is learning to work with what you have when you shoot in public spaces. This rink was absolutely packed and if I'm being honest, I kind of panicked that we wouldn't have even the slightest space to shoot but sometimes I have to push myself to roll with the flow. I loved the lights on this wall and wanted to incorporate them in the shots somehow. We rushed over to this wall got about 5 minutes of fast snapping before people took over this wall but I could not be happier with how they turned out (shoutout to Lightroom's magic, too).

This shoot, though it was slightly challenging, I am so thankful for as it pushed me to be creative and learn to roll with the punches when shooting in public spaces.
