Doing a greenhouse shoot has been a dream of mine for quite some time and I am so excited to announce the release of my Greenhouse Project that I have been working on. I, by no means, consider myself a plant expert but that is not the point in this project. Plants are something I enjoy and the purpose of this project is to capture the life that plants bring to our world.
The subject and details of this shoot were elements that were subtle but played a vital role in this shoot. For this shoot, I wanted to incorporate someone with red hair to stick out from all of the green and ultimately add depth to the photos. I also wanted the subject's hair to be in a braid with baby's breathe weaved in. I had seen a similar looking style on Pinterest and thought it was cute but wasn't sure if we could make it work. However, after I consulted with my hair/makeup person, we decided it would add a sense of delicacy to the shots.
An element that I wanted to incorporate in this shoot is wonder. There is no doubt that people are constantly drawn to plants. They play a major role in modern design and are seen everywhere from people's homes to restaurants and coffee shops. They are seen in the mountains that we drive through and the trails we hike. Plants add life to the world around us and are constantly drawing in our attention. Think of how many times you've stopped to take pictures of a flower or tree that caught your attention. It draws us in and takes our minds captive. We are opened to a world of wonder in those moments and it's that wonder that wanted to key in on.
Going back to the theme of curiosity, I wanted to incorporate shots of the subject looking through and feeling the plants to demonstrate the curiosity that plants foster in us.
I wanted the overall tone of the shoot to be soft and delicate which is why I had the subject do more serious and soft smiles. But I wanted one shot to be a little more cheery to represent growth. My reasons for this are more personal than anything because in this past season of my life, I have experienced growth in several areas of my life. I had been wanting to do a shoot like this for quite some time but kept putting it off. Then I decided what better time to document a topic that revolves around life and growth than now, a season when I am experiencing those very things. As I was writing this blog, one of my all time favorite songs came to mind: "Seasons" by Hillsong Worship. In the song it says,
"Though my waiting prolongs even greater Your promise for me like a seed I believe that my season will come."
Hearing this song reminded me of how faithful God has been to my photography, along with many other areas in my life, and ultimately reminded me of my "why".
