Last week, I spent some time looking through some past weddings I had second shot with various photographers and I was reminded of something quite special.
As I was scrolling through the hundreds of detail shots that sat on my hard drive, this thought ran across my mind: The things that make "the big day" so big seem to be the small, intentional moments and details of meaning throughout the day. Each detail is a piece of that couple's story woven into the their wedding day-- that's why details matter.
That dress that was passed down from generations, that train that the bride adored, food from the place that the couple shared their first date. All of these things personalize each couple yet are easily forgotten after the day of the wedding. However, photographers get the special task of preserving every single of these details.
Another important part of capturing these details is that it allows you the chance to focus on your art. Especially if you're second shooting, take advantage of this time and be truly focused and intentional with these shots. Practicing lighting and composition on these still details is truly beneficial and when it comes to photographing the actual subjects (the bride and groom). It is also beneficial in learning how to make intentional clicks rather than constantly clicking your shutter while hoping you get the right shot.
